![]() at least Boom TRIED to have level design. Like, little as it may have been, and poor as it have been. this may actually be the worst Sonic game in the entire franchise. And so, this is the Sonic game that even I couldn't beat, after all the crap I've pushed myself through.Īll in all, this is just a bad, BAD game, and crazy as it may sound with the lows the series has hit. Like, what the hell happened here, seriously?Īfter getting to the volcano race for the Hero campaign, me and my group of friends got stuck long enough that we just said screw it, because it's not like there was anything left of value in the game to experience. seemed to look noticeably worse than the Wii game. And hell, far as I can tell, this 360 game. could they, like, not get all the voices? Because characters like Vector and Jet (who are not exactly great voices elsewhere anyway) just sounded off and atrocious. I mean, they couldn't even be bothered to animate some cutscenes, and it's just literally still images conversing over a generic "it's a tournament I guess" plot. Like, this isn't a racing game, it's just an empty shell full of dumb gimmicks.Īlso, this is a no effort game. ![]() But even when you DID get into just the right position for what it wanted. I mean, we checked and tried calibrating, and from the sensor view which shows the stick figure of your body, the Kinect seemed to be working just fine, so it shouldn't have been a hardware/setup issue. Like, especially the turning, which is kind of important in a racing game. My whole group and myself really, really tried, and you can KIND OF get it to work, but it just doesn't feel responsive even then. not really sure what I can say about this game, as. when he built the dumb things and the company or whatever in the first place, so he shouldn't need a stupid McGuffin to control them anyway? Oh, and yes, let's all fly into a black hole, seems legit! Like, why was Eggman's plot to get the control device to cause the robots to rampage. For the story this at least wasn't THAT bad and just kind of made for a so-so experience, but I can't imagine much of anything could be had from trying to compete against other people in this game, which is kind of crucial for a racing game. The courses are just "do this kind of flashy thing at the right spot and just kind of keep on going." It just feels kind of braindead, especially in comparison to the complexity of the original. Anyway, this game has a crucial flaw that's the exact opposite of the first one, IMO: it has pretty much no depth. I even played with the Gamecube controller, btw, so the motion controls were no issue. (And how did nobody notice the bomb blatantly slapped onto that board.?) ![]() ![]() I mean, yeah, sure, let's make the futuristic hover boards relics from an ancient civilization or whatever, why not. ![]() Oh, and even if the story's way above the other two games, it still felt pretty bad, even by Sonic standards. The problem is again, the learning curve would probably make it pretty hard to get other people playing with you up to the same level as just beating the story would get you to. Like, I think that last race before the final boss was expecting near perfection from you!īut yeah, when I got through it all and saw the scope of all the little tricks and mechanics and everything, I could see it making for some pretty fun races. the story actually expects a whole hell of a lot out of you, considering it was presumably trying to appeal primarily to kids. Hell, there may STILL be something I didn't figure out in there, but regardless. So the result was actually me struggling terribly with the story mode at several points, only to realize I was doing something wrong, which turned out to be the key. That's actually my biggest issue with the game: the learning curve is just plain terrible, and the game doesn't really do a lot to teach you. once you realize what the hell is going on. It's actually got pretty interesting little mechanics. To cut a little ahead of myself, the first game in the series is ironically also the only one worth half a damn. ![]()
